At Robert Ellis, we believe in giving back. Supporting both national and local causes has been part of our business for over a decade. From organising large fundraising events to making direct donations, we’re committed to making a difference in the communities we serve.
Charity and community work has always been important to our team. Over the years, we’ve supported a range of initiatives – some driven by personal connections, others through partnerships with local organisations. What they all have in common is a desire to do something meaningful beyond our day-to-day business.
We’ve been actively fundraising and donating to good causes since at least 2011. One of our earliest and most significant initiatives was the Eric Gibson Memorial Golf Day, which marked the beginning of a more formal commitment to community support.
We support a wide range of charities, from national organisations to smaller local groups. These include:
• The Motor Neurone Disease Association
• The Canaan Trust
• Marie Curie
• Breast Cancer Now
• Prostate Cancer UK
• Ben’s Den
• Cancer Research
• Busoga Trust
• The Travers Foundation
• Church Wilne Rotary
• Cure Parkinson’s
• Alzheimer’s Research
• Diabetes UK.
Our approach is straightforward – if a cause is important to someone within the business or connected to our wider network of clients or partners, we do what we can to help. That might mean a donation, organising an event, or helping to spread the word.
“Raising funds for MNDA in memory of Eric was about more than charity – it was about continuing his legacy and making a real difference to those living with the disease.”
Mark Philpott, Director.
Over the years, we’ve taken part in various fundraising efforts. These include bake sales, raffles, charity auctions and organised events like the annual Eric Gibson Memorial Golf Day. Held at Beeston Fields Golf Club, where Eric had been a member, this event ran for eight years and raised over £100,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association in Nottingham.
The event brought together friends, colleagues, and members of the local community. It included golf entry fees, a raffle, a charity auction, and cake sales managed by Eric’s wife, Evelyn. The success of this event stands is an example of what’s possible when people come together with a shared purpose.
“Each year we saw incredible generosity from those who joined the golf day – it was a community effort that grew far beyond what we first imagined.”
Neill Millward, Director
We don’t just support national charities. We also get involved in community-focused projects, whether that’s by donating to local groups or backing smaller initiatives that make a difference at a local level. In 2025, we donated £2,000 to The Canaan Trust, which supports those facing homelessness and hardship in our area.
“As directors, we’ve always believed that businesses should play an active role in their local communities. Giving back – whether through time, funding or support – is part of how we do business.”
Guy Hall, Director
Many of our fundraising events have been made possible thanks to the support of our clients and local residents. From buying raffle tickets to taking part in events, their involvement has been key. If you’d like to get involved, whether by donating, joining an event, or nominating a cause we’d love to hear from you.
We welcome contact from local charities who need some support, particularly those based in the communities we work in. If you’re part of a charity or organisation looking to partner with us or seeking help for a specific initiative, please get in touch.
