Beeston’s main shopping area is situated along the High Road, much of which has now been pedestrianised. There are national retailers such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Boots but the town is best known for its selection of high-quality independent stores like Fred Hallam’s (greengrocer and fishmonger), Birds the Bakers and Iguazu Fair Trade (furniture and gifts). Travelling further along the High Road towards Broadgate Park, there are specialist East Asian and Mediterranean food shops. The main shopping centre, “The Square” has seen significant development with the implementation of the tram and now has a contemporary feel, hosting seasonal craft fairs and markets throughout the year. At the “out of town” retail park at Chilwell, there are a range of national retailers such as M&S Food, TK Maxx, Matalan, Next and Halfords, all with ample parking provided. There are numerous restaurants and takeaways offering a wide selection of food from around the world. Diners can make the short journey to Nottingham to enjoy a meal out or alternatively visit one of the 40 restaurants listed by “Trip Advisor” within the town. “Amores” on Station Road could be your choice for Italian or maybe “Latinos” on Chilwell Road. “Yiannis” on Wollaton Road serves a full Greek menu, “The Frustrated Chef” on Chilwell Road has both lunchtime and evening menus and for Indian food, try “The Cottage Balti” on Chilwell Road or “Haveli” on Attenborough Lane.
For sports enthusiasts, Beeston is home to England hockey premiere league team Beeston Hockey Club who play at Highfields Sport Club on University Boulevard, also the venue for the Nottingham Open Tennis Tournament. Other fitness facilities include the Pure Gym, Bramcote Leisure Centre (with its popular family pool) and the nearby “Village Hotel” gym and pool “membership” facility.
There are also two golf courses adjacent to the town: Beeston Fields and Chilwell Manor and the award winning Attenborough Nature Reserve and the Canal Side Heritage Centre are well worth a visit.
